Once you speak with Aventis Aretino, you can leave the Aretino Residence. After you leave the Aretino Residence, you need to sleep in a bed. You will receive a letter with the words "We Know" if you don't sleep in a bed within a few in-game days after you speak with Aventis Aretino. When you sleep in a bed, The Dark Brotherhood will abduct and bring you to the Abandoned Shack, which is a small cabin near Solitude.
When Astrid speaks with you, she will tell you that The Dark Brotherhood knows that you are responsible for Grelod's death, and that she has a test for you. Astrid will reveal three captives in the back of the room that she wants you to kill. She doesn't tell you which character you should kill to complete the quest correctly, however, she allows you to speak will all of them so that you can make a decision.
There is no correct answer to this objective. Regardless of if you kill one character, two characters, or all three of them, Astrid will be happy with your decision and invite you to join The Dark Brotherhood.
She will tell you about a sanctuary near Falkreath where The Dark Brotherhood members live, and then you can enter it. You have to progress far into The Dark Brotherhood questline before you get the Blade Of Woe; however, you can take a different route in the Abandoned Shack if you want to obtain the dagger faster.
Instead of killing the three characters, you can attack and kill Astrid to acquire the Blade Of Woe. The fight with Astrid is challenging if you're a low-level; however, it's manageable as long as you have a weapon. Armor and potions are also useful during this fight. Once you defeat Astrid, she will drop the Blade Of Woe and you can start using it.
